Griffiths Helps Savannah Outscore New Haven
|
The Savannah-New Haven matchup at Hartford Courant Center turned into a slugfest.
Benefiting from an exceptional performance from Mike Griffiths, the Savannah Wildcats defeated the New Haven Tempest, 12-10. Griffiths hit 3 home runs, while scoring 4 runs and driving in 5 for the Wildcats. Joe Williams closed the door for Savannah, picking up his 42nd save of the year.
Griffiths contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Savannah in the top of the fourth. With his team trailing 3-1, Griffiths took a fastball from Matt Jacobson and stroked the home run to right. His 36th home run of the season allowed the Wildcats to leap in front, 4-3.
"Ugly win or not, we'll take it," said Griffiths.
Savannah is second in the United League Atlantic Division with a record of 85-65.
