Waterspouts Win at Corpus Christi, 5-1
|
Corpus Christi pitcher Michael Ponce gave the Waterspouts all they could handle, but in the end, Honolulu left Fallow Field with a 5-1 win. Ponce allowed 2 earned runs on 7 hits over 8 innings. Nazir Bruton got the win, improving to 6-3. He worked 6.2 innings, giving up 1 run on 5 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 3. Honolulu is in second place in the United League West Division with a record of 41-25.
Kevin Conger, who is on pace for 226 hits this season, aided the Honolulu cause with a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh. For the game, the left fielder went 1 for 3 with a walk.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Conger said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
