Dave Coffin never let New Haven get something going. The Savannah right-hander commanded his sinker in pitching the Wildcats to a 2-1 win. The winner was Brian Blum in relief. His record improves to 2-1. Nico van Berkom took the loss. Joe Williams was called on to finish, recording his 45th save.
Bryant Leslie, who signed a 4-year contract worth $65,900,000 on 01/02/2018, aided the Savannah cause with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the seventh. For the game, the catcher went 1-3.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Savannah manager Dave Swann said.
The Wildcats are now 92-70, while the Tempest fall to 111-51.
