Hullabaloo Fall Short at Tucson
|
In a close game at Kmart Park, the Tucson Fighting Beetles edged the Kalamazoo Hullabaloo, 5-4. Tucson designated hitter Salvador Garica earned the nod as player of the game. He was 2 for 3 with a double and a walk. He scored 2 times. The win was credited to Chad Hopper in relief. His record improves to 5-3. Elias Sanchez took the loss. Jason Gutierrez picked up the save, his 17th.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the eighth, with the game tied, Chris Collins was at the plate when Tucson scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Fighting Beetles to go in front, 5-4.
"I've been criticized for being a slacker, but the one thing I do care about is winning," Collins told the Tucson Times.
Tucson is now 31-39, while Kalamazoo is 52-18.
