Ponce Handcuffs Corsairs, Cheesepressers Seize 3-2 Advantage in World Series
The Toledo Cheesepressers moved to within one game of the Round 5 today, downing the Thunder Bay Corsairs on the road at Dr. Thunderdome by a score of 7-4. Cheesepressers left-hander Michael Ponce was named player of the game after a strong outing in which he threw 7 innings of 6-hit ball. The win gives the Cheesepressers a 3-2 advantage in the best-of-7 World Series.

Xavier Gomez, who was drafted in the three round of the 2021 draft, aided the Toledo cause with a 2-run double in the top of the first. For the game, the shortstop went 1 for 4 with a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.

"Things broke our way today and that's great," Cheesepressers manager Matt Perrone said. "It's important, though, to stay focused and not pat yourself on the back too much. We aren't done yet."

Game 6 is scheduled for Wednesday, November 5th, 2025 at Velveeta Field. Slated to start are Nazir Bruton for the Corsairs and Michael Ponce for the Cheesepressers.
