McMurtry Hits 2 home runs in Fighting Beetles Win
The Tucson Fighting Beetles beat the New Haven Tempest, 12-4, at Hartford Courant Center. The win was largely due to the efforts of shortstop Scott McMurtry, who captured player of the game honors. He slugged 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Luis Arriaga was the winning pitcher. Over 8.1 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 9 hits, with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. The second-place Fighting Beetles are now 39-38, the Tempest 52-27.

Bob Mosner, who is tied for 4th in the UL in bases on balls with 50, aided the Tucson cause with a run-scoring triple in the top of the fifth. For the game, the designated hitter was 3-5 with a triple and a double. He scored 2 times.

"You work hard, day in and day out, hoping to give the fans something to cheer about. Today was a good day," Mosner told the Tucson Bulletin.
