New Haven Tempest starter Mike Benjamin turned in an exceptional performance against the El Paso Sweathogs at Old El Paso Salsadome, resulting in a New Haven win, 5-1. Benjamin got the win, improving to 6-4. He allowed 5 hits and walked 1 over 8.1 innings. Benjamin allowed 1 earned run. The Tempest, at 41-38, sit in first place in the United League Atlantic Division.
The Tempest had to work out of trouble in the bottom of the ninth. The score was 5-1, New Haven, with one out. El Paso, with the bases loaded, was mounting a threat. Danny Shook dug in at the plate, but on a 2-2 sinker, he struck out.
