Kingfishers Prevail, 2-1, Over Kalamazoo
|
The Corpus Christi Kingfishers scored a 2-1 win versus the Kalamazoo Hullabaloo at Fallow Field. Corpus Christi pitcher Shane Miles nabbed top player honors in the tight contest. Miles picked up the win for Corpus Christi, going 8 innings. He gave up 1 run on 7 hits. He now sports a record of 5-9. David Sanders was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 18 of 24 save opportunities.
Had Marco Magana not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 1st, Magana hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Kingfishers.
"That's the key at this level, throwing strike one," said Miles. "Successful pitchers do it."
The Kingfishers now own a record of 32-53.
