The Saskatoon Platoon overcame a good performance by Honolulu catcher Colin Allen to knock off Honolulu, 5-3, at Coconuts Park. Allen was 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times. Jose Rubio got the win, improving to 4-3. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 7 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 4 and walking 2. Jamie Schmidt closed the game out for Saskatoon, earning his 18th save.
The Platoon benefited from a costly error in the top of the fourth. With Matt Applegate at bat and Saskatoon leading 3-2, the Honolulu miscue allowed Saskatoon to plate 1 and take the lead, 4-2.
"I like to keep things lively in the clubhouse," said Applegate. "Believe me, it's much easier after a win."
Saskatoon is last in the United League West Division with a record of 38-49.
