Wagoner Touches All the Bases, Hits for Cycle
|
Getting 4 hits in a game is no easy feat, but doing it to hit for the cycle is even more rare.
Mike Wagoner of the Kalamazoo Hullabaloo pulled it off today at The Zoo, going 4-for-4 against the Des Moines Pharaohs. His batting escapades sparked the Hullabaloo to a 5-4 victory.
Wagoner tallied 3 runs and drove in 1 during the game. Hitting for the cycle is particularly rare because of the different skills required - enough power for a home run, enough speed for a triple and enough patience at the plate to see at least four hittable balls.
"It just happened," Wagoner said to reporters after the win. "Must have been fate or something, I wasn't expecting it. Heck, I wasn't even really trying for it."
Mike Wagoner singled in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Jason Wheeler in the 3rd, tripled in the 5th and doubled in the 7th.
Wagoner currently has a .352 batting average with 115 hits, 6 homers, 56 RBIs, 63 runs scored and a .445 OBP.
