New Haven catcher Brian Richardson was instrumental in his team's 3-2 win over the Reno Graybirds. Richardson, who is a two-time All-Star, went 3-4 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Tempest. New Haven reliever Will Engle picked up the win, bumping his record to 7-0. Bobby Meyers was collared with the loss. Jason Balentine got the save, his 24th in 25 chances.

New Haven grabbed the momentum in the bottom of the fifth, when Richardson, who is a two-time All-Star, hit a run-scoring single. His 96th hit of the season put the Tempest out in front, 2-1.

"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Richardson said after the game.

The Tempest have an impressive 64-35 record.
