Tempest Win Again, Extend Streak to 7
|
With catcher Brian Richardson leading the charge, the New Haven Tempest defeated the Des Moines Pharaohs, 4-1, at Tractor Supply Company Park. Richardson, who is a two-time All-Star, went 3 for 3 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Dave Berke earned the win to go to 9-6. He allowed 1 earned run on 5 hits, with 2 walks and 8 strikeouts. Jason Balentine earned his 26th save in 27 chances.
Richardson had a game-changing single in the top of the sixth. On a 1-2 slider from Adam Walker, he banged a run-scoring single to center, giving the Tempest a 2-1 lead. It was the 99th hit of the year for Richardson.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Richardson said.
New Haven has now won 7 in a row.
