Waterspouts Best Mighty Cocks in Pitching Duel
|
The Honolulu Waterspouts topped the Little Rock Mighty Cocks, 2-0, in United League action at Coconuts Park. The player of the game was Honolulu pitcher and St. Paul, Minnesota native Jake Doak. Doak picked up the win for Honolulu, going 8 innings. He gave up no runs on 6 hits. He now sports a record of 5-9. Tony Sanchez got the save, his 18th in 19 chances.
The Waterspouts beat the Mighty Cocks in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Colin Allen produced in the bottom of the sixth. Batting against Little Rock pitcher Todd Reining, Allen gave his team a 1-0 lead when he hit a run-scoring single.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Allen told the Honolulu Observer.
The first-place Mighty Cocks have dropped 4 straight games.
