Devil Bears Get One-Run Win at Kalamazoo
|
Kalamazoo center fielder Alvaro Verdusco had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Verdusco went 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3, even as Bangor beat the Hullabaloo, 5-4. Verdusco was named the player of the game despite the loss. Jarrod Colcott got the win, improving to 3-1. He pitched 6.1 innings, giving up 8 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 6 and walking 3. The save went to Justin Collins, his 1st this season.
Had Sergio Fuentes not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Fuentes hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Devil Bears.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Fuentes told reporters after the game.
Bangor, now 44-63, holds last place in the United League Atlantic Division.
