Kingfishers Saddle Waterspouts with 4-1 Loss
|
Marco Reyes never let the Waterspouts get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his curveball, to pitch the Kingfishers to a 4-1 win. The winning pitcher was Reyes, now 6-9. He tossed 6.2 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 8. Ken Waldrop was credited with the save for Corpus Christi, his 24th of the season.
The Kingfishers beat the Waterspouts in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out triple Eric Stevens produced in the top of the fifth. Batting against Honolulu pitcher Zhen-ying Chen, Stevens gave his team a 4-1 lead when he hit a bases-clearing triple.
"We put together a nice win," Reyes said.
Corpus Christi is in last place in the United League East Division with a record of 39-73.
