Tempest Win Thriller, 5-4

The New Haven Tempest did just enough to secure a 5-4 victory over the Knoxville Running Rebels at Hartford Courant Center. Nobody did more than third baseman Caleb Zimmer, who captured player of the game honors. Cameron Pelletier picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 8-3. Jim McGuire was tagged with the loss. New Haven leads the United League East Division by 15 games.
Zimmer had a game-changing single in the bottom of the ninth. On a 1-2 fastball from Jim McGuire, he banged a run-scoring single to center, giving the Tempest a 5-4 lead. It was the 166th hit of the year for Zimmer.
"This place went bonkers at the end," Zimmer said.
