|
Despite a great performance by Corpus Christi second baseman Evan Mendez, the New Haven Tempest defeated the Kingfishers by the score of 8-4 at Flagship Field. Mendez went 4-4 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs. Dave Berke, who went 5 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 5 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 4. His record now stands at 9-7. Mike Perry recorded the save for New Haven, his 24th of the season.
In the bottom of the first, Brett Jewett hit a 2-run home run for New Haven. The 14th home run of the season for the New Haven designated hitter put the Tempest on top, 2-0.
"We came out aggressive," said Tempest manager Brandon Eberle. "We came out swinging the bats."
The first-place Tempest have their sights set on making a deep playoff run.
