New Haven got a terrific performance from catcher Ryan Freeman, but it wasn't enough to beat the Saskatoon Platoon. Saskatoon won the Labatt Blue Field contest, 5-3. Freeman was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Saskatoon reliever Mike Caple was the winner. His record is now 3-0. The losing pitcher was Philip Lundholm. Ryan Elliott, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 1st save.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, first baseman Josh Boswell came through big-time for the Platoon. With Saskatoon leading 3-2, he belted a 2-run home run.

"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Saskatoon manager Matt Germano. "It's usually not just one thing."

Saskatoon, now 13-4, has gotten their season off to a good start.
