Cheesepressers Continue Hot Start to Season With Win
|
The Toledo Cheesepressers topped the Little Rock Mighty Cocks, 5-3, in United League action at Durex Field. The player of the game was Toledo pitcher and Santa Paula, California native Michael Ponce. Ponce picked up the win for Toledo, going 8 innings. He gave up 3 runs on 4 hits. He now sports a record of 4-0. Jason Hoose sewed up the save, his 11th.
Tatsumi Irie had a big 2-run single for the Cheesepressers in the top of the sixth inning. With Toledo leading 2-1 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a fastball from Damian Mujica and stroked the single to left-center. It was his 22nd hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Cheesepressers ahead, 4-1.
"I tried to mix it up, keep them off balance," said Ponce.
The Cheesepressers, now 17-5, have played some good baseball in the early going.
