The New Haven Tempest topped the Knoxville Running Rebels, 5-3, in United League action at Hartford Courant Center. The player of the game was New Haven pitcher Matt Jacobson. Jacobson, now 2-1, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 9 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 2 earned runs. Edgar Zavala was called on to finish, recording his 5th save.
It could have been a different outcome for New Haven, had it not been for Franklin Randell, the 26-year old left fielder . Randell contributed a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the third inning to put New Haven up, 3-1.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Randell told the New Haven Today.
The Running Rebels fall to 12-18 and continue their lackluster start to the 2016 season.
