Tempest Come Back Late to Clip Fighting Beetles
|
The Tucson Fighting Beetles got a sterling performance from pitcher Cory Erbes, but the Tempest still prevailed, 5-4. Erbes was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 7 innings of 3-hit ball. The win was credited to Mike Perry in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Cory Erbes took the loss. The Tempest have an impressive 21-12 record.
Had Marcus Butts not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Butts hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Tempest.
"We'll savor this win," Butts told the New Haven Times, "then get ready for the next game."
