Waterspouts Lose to Platoon, 10-4
|
It was a good time at Labatt Blue Field, where fans came to watch the Honolulu Waterspouts and Saskatoon Platoon get after it.
The Saskatoon Platoon relied on the hitting of shortstop Craig Whitaker to stop the Honolulu Waterspouts, 10-4. For the game, Whitaker was 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. Mike Caple, who went 6 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 9 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 1. His record now stands at 3-1. Will Engle recorded his 1st save for Saskatoon.
The game turned with two out in the bottom of the fourth when Whitaker, who is tied for 8th in the UL with a .425 on-base percentage, hit a run-scoring single. It propelled the Platoon into the lead, 4-3.
"I just try to go out and give it 100 percent every game," Whitaker told a local reporter after the game. "That's my mantra, and like today, it will pay off more often than not."
The Platoon have an impressive 21-13 record.
