Tempest Get Past Havana for 5-4 Win
|
With catcher Brian Richardson leading the charge, the New Haven Tempest defeated the Havana Knights, 5-4, at Flagship Field. Richardson, who is a two-time All-Star, went 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and a walk, while scoring 2 runs. New Haven reliever Jason Balentine picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. John Reitzel shouldered the loss. New Haven, now 3-1, has played well in the early going.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when New Haven first baseman Brett Jewett, facing John Reitzel, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Tempest the 5-4 win.
"This place was rocking at the end," Jewett said.
