The New Haven Tempest defeated the Reno Graybirds, 4-3, at Harris Interactive Arena today. Leading the charge for New Haven was designated hitter Jared Cartwright. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Philip Lundholm got the win, improving to 4-5. He worked 7 innings, giving up 2 runs on 8 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 3. Edgar Zavala was credited with the save for New Haven, his 9th of the season.
Cartwright had a game-changing single in the top of the seventh. On a 2-1 cutter from Danny Ziegler, he banged a run-scoring single to center, giving the Tempest a 3-2 lead. It was the 56th hit of the year for Cartwright.
Reno manager Kenny MacDonald said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
The 'W' lifts New Haven's record to 19-25.
