The New Haven Tempest picked up a win at Hartford Courant Center, knocking off the Havana Knights, 3-2. Starting pitcher Steve Rhodes, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. New Haven reliever Shane Slevin picked up the win, upping his record to 4-0. John Livingston shouldered the loss. Cameron Pelletier picked up the save for New Haven, his 15th of the year.
Mike Atwell had a clutch at-bat with one out in the bottom of the eighth for the Tempest. Coming up with runners on 2nd and 3rd and New Haven trailing 2-1, he hit a 2-run double.
"We were in it," said Havana manager Joel Allen. "We just didn't score enough runs."
New Haven is in first place in the United League Atlantic Division with a record of 38-16.
