New Haven got a strong outing from Calvin Donnelly as the Tempest defeated the Toledo Cheesepressers, 5-1, at Velveeta Field. Donnelly, the winner, moves to 1-1. He threw 8 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 1 and giving up 4 walks. Jason Balentine locked down his 11th save.
With a runner on 2nd and two out in the top of the fourth inning, catcher Brian Richardson delivered big for the Tempest. New Haven was leading 2-0 when he belted a 2-run home run.
Richardson told a New Haven Times reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
New Haven leads the United League Atlantic Division by 2½ games.
