Toledo got a terrific performance from pitcher R.J. Fallon, but it wasn't enough to beat the Norfolk Commodores. Norfolk won the Velveeta Field contest, 3-2. Fallon was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 7 innings of 5-hit ball. Norfolk reliever Matthew Jesionowski picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Alvin Biter was saddled with the loss. Norfolk is 24-38 and Toledo, with the loss, 34-28.
The most important at-bat for Norfolk came in the top of the tenth inning, when second baseman Chris Thrift stroked a first pitch fastball to right for a run-scoring single, putting Norfolk up, 3-2.
"This game tested our mettle," said Thrift.
