Murphy Hitless, Streak Ends at 22
Tuesday, August 25th, 2026
George Murphy, left fielder for the El Paso Sweathogs, gave it a good try, but his day in history finally came to an end, when he went hitless in 4 tries against the Tallahassee Tyrants. Not only had they stopped his 22-game hitting streak, they had beaten El Paso 5-1, too.
Speaking with the media after the game, Murphy said, "Now that the streak has ended, I admit I will breathe a bit easier the next time I step up to bat. It was tough because I put a little pressure on myself. Now that it's over, I will definitely be a little bit looser at the plate."
This season Murphy is swinging the bat at a .290 pace. He has hit 27 home runs and scored 66 times, while driving in 72. His on-base percentage is .351 and he has played in 109 games.
