Kingfishers Fall to .500 After Loss to Cheesepressers
|
The Toledo Cheesepressers beat the Corpus Christi Kingfishers, 6-3, at Fallow Field. The win was largely due to the efforts of second baseman Russ Cleaver, who captured player of the game honors. He was 4-5 with 2 doubles and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs. Robby Cappel earned the save, his 34th. Toledo now sits at 92-53, while Corpus Christi falls to 73-73.
The Cheesepressers beat the Kingfishers in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Francisco Romo produced in the top of the first. Batting against Corpus Christi pitcher David Sanders, Romo gave his team a 2-0 lead when he hit a 2-run single.
Romo attributed the win to "a well-rounded effort by the whole team."
