Running Rebels Beat Cheesepressers, 6-5
|
The Knoxville Running Rebels did just enough to secure a 6-5 victory over the Toledo Cheesepressers at Smith and Wesson Field. Nobody did more than right fielder John Phillips, who captured player of the game honors. Knoxville reliever Kyle Carson picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Wilber York shouldered the loss. Aaron Mahon locked down his 1st save.
In the bottom of the 6th, catcher Mike Bergschneider gave Knoxville the lead when he hit a 2-run single. The Running Rebels had been trailing 4-3, but the two-out single off Toledo pitcher Wilber York changed that -- and Knoxville went on to win.
"Not to put too fine a point on it," said Bergschneider, "but we really needed that win."
Knoxville currently is in last place in the United League East Division at 58-102.
