Ice Sox Edge Tempest 5-4 to Open World Series
|
The Anchorage Ice Sox faced a tough opponent in New Haven Tempest right fielder Bubba Hurst, but did just enough to pull out a win in Game 1 of the World Series, which they now lead 1-0. The Ice Sox won 5-4 at Hartford Courant Center, despite the efforts of Hurst, who went 4 for 5 with a double and 3 singles and was named player of the game.
Rick Lester made it 5-4 in favor of Anchorage when he delivered a 2-run home run. It came with no one out in the top of the ninth. The Ice Sox went on to win.
"We're happy," Lester told reporters after the win. "When you're in the playoffs, you've pretty much got to treat every game like it could be your last."
Game 2 is scheduled for Monday, October 22nd, 2018 at Hartford Courant Center. Slated to start are Ian Knight for the Ice Sox and Philip Lundholm for the Tempest.
