Atwell Hits 2 home runs in Tempest Win
|
The New Haven Tempest bested the Toledo Cheesepressers, 4-3, at Hartford Courant Center. Mike Atwell was named player of the game. He went 4-4 with 2 home runs and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Matt Jacobson got the win, improving to 4-1. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 7 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 3 and walking 2. New Haven has an impressive 78-39 record.
Atwell contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for New Haven in the bottom of the third. With his team trailing 1-0, Atwell took a fastball from Lance McFarlen and stroked the home run to left. His 38th home run of the season allowed the Tempest to leap in front, 2-1.
"We take it day by day here," said Atwell, "and today was a good one for us."
