Rose Slugs Pride to 8-7 Win
|
Savannah and New Haven put this game in the books despite some rain.
The Savannah Pride beat the New Haven Tempest, 8-7, at Haggar Pants Park. The win was largely due to the efforts of first baseman Pat Rose, who captured player of the game honors. He was 2-4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice. The winner was Savannah reliever Johnny Brown, now 2-3. The loser was Dan Hindes. Matt Bursley earned the save, his 26th, for the Pride.
Rose contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for Savannah in the bottom of the seventh. With his team trailing 6-4, Rose took a sinker from Mike Perry and stroked the home run to left. His 30th home run of the season allowed the Pride to leap in front, 8-6.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Savannah manager John Muir.
Savannah now sits at 66-56, while New Haven falls to 81-41.
