Multi-HR Day for Atwell as Tempest Overpower Cheesepressers, 11-4
The New Haven Tempest knocked off the Toledo Cheesepressers, 11-4, at Hartford Courant Center. Mike Atwell, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason New Haven won. The designated hitter was 3 for 5 with 2 home runs and a double. He drove in 6 runs and scored twice. New Haven reliever Christian Green was credited with the win, to go to 8-0. Chris Matula took the loss for Toledo. Edgar Zavala, credited with the save, is now 5 for 6 in save opportunities.

Atwell contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for New Haven in the top of the third. With his team trailing 3-1, Atwell took a sinker from Chris Matula and stroked the home run to left. His 47th home run of the season allowed the Tempest to leap in front, 4-3.

"I still think this team has room for improvement," Atwell told the New Haven Chronicle.

The first-place Tempest have their sights set on making a deep playoff run.
